The Erie Canal in the Finger Lakes Region includes a review of the proposals to build waterways during the 100 years preceding the canal's completion in 1825, A brief description and history of the villages along the canal, short biographies of seven people who were instrumental in the planning and the construction of the canal, and an epilogue about the future of the canal. Also included is information on places to see and things to do along a thirty-mile wide strip across the northern section of the Finger Lakes Region-fifteen miles north of the canal to Lake Ontario and fifteen miles south of the canal to Routes 5 and 20.
